Carole thought she was going to lose it all. Her cozy Pacifica home that she worked tirelessly to maintain and age in place in was slipping through her fingers with no hope in sight. The more than 60-year old carpeting in her home, riddled with decades of dust and allergens, had caused life-impairing asthma for Carole. The air was so toxic a simple inhale resulted in, at best, an incessantly scratchy throat and, at worst, a violent fit of coughs. Carole knew her health and safety demanded a change in her living environment. Even with meticulously budgeting her meager fixed income, affording a contractor to remove her old carpeting and install new flooring was impossible without sacrificing resources to cover her monthly bills and living costs.
“I literally didn’t know what I was going to do, I couldn’t live here the house was so toxic. I was worried I was going to have to get into assisted living, leave my home, and sell it. [Rebuilding Together Peninsula] made it possible for me to stay here and that’s huge,” Carole shared.
Each year, donors like you make life-altering home repair projects possible for neighbors like Carole - homeowners who've spent a lifetime maintaining their homes but who stumble across critical repair needs that exceed their financial means, physical ability, or technical knowledge to fully address.
#BecauseWeCare, we're teaming up with you create a safe and healthy home for every person this holiday season. Donate to Rebuilding Together Peninsula (RTP) for #GivingTuesday and help us restore the feeling of home for our neighbors in need.
Donate and double your impact this holiday season thanks to a generous match challenge grant from the Sobrato Family Foundation! If you're a new donor to RTP, a lapsed donor (haven't given a gift since September 2016), or a current donor increasing your last gift, the Sobrato Family Foundation will match your donation, dollar for dollar, up to $55,000!
Triple your impact by participating in your employer's matching gifts program on #GivingTuesday. Use this tool to look up your employer and check if they offer a matching gifts program.
