January 2017 Free Skills Series: Fire By Friction

Learn to make fire by rubbing sticks together.

We would like to invite you to this month's Rewilding Skill Series. The Rewilding Free Skills Series is a class & networking event that happens monthly, that usually occurs (but not always) on the last Saturday of the month. It is a place for social networking where people make new friends and hang out with old friends learning skills to connect us with humanity’s ancestral past and more local and sustainable future. We ask for a $10 – $20 suggested donation with no one turned away.

This Month's theme is "fire by friction." Making fire and tending fire is an ancient human practice that all humans should know and understand. Come to our free skills series and learn about the origin of fire and how to make fire the old fashioned way. Ever wondered how to start a fire by rubbing sticks together? Do you have a dusty fire kit in your closet that needs some practice? Are you a highly skilled fire maker that wants to show off your skills? Wherever you are at with fire-making skills, this is a true skillshare. We will supply some materials, and of course our staff is trained and will be providing a planned lesson, but we encourage all people to bring their own kits, their own experiences and knowledge, and come share what works best for you and why, while learning and practicing some new ideas as well. All kinds of fire-by-friction are welcome (bow-drill, hand-drill, fire saw, fire plow, fire thong, etc.) See you there!
