Sharing Hope in our Neighborhood Everyday - Supporting our South Kitsap Boys & Girls Club

Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound’s South Kitsap Branch has partnered with Team Shine (Sharing Hope in our Neighborhood Everyday) this year to introduce two new community events that benefit the Clubs. This team is a group of local community advocates who have chosen our organization to support and organize events that benefit our members and increase awareness of our program in the community. They have chosen to put on a Health, Wellness and Safety Fair and a Dodge Ball Tournament. Team Shine members are Tim Maule, Cori Berg, Kristy Yeadon, Mark Yergeau, Deirdre McKeel, and Rick Feeney. Along with organizing these events, Team Shine will be promoting the Club in general and providing the community with ways to support their local Club.

The first event will be held on March 27th at Orchard Heights Elementary School site of the of the South Kitsap Branch. The Wellness and Safety Fair will be an opportunity for our children to meet and learn healthy habits from local medical personnel, physical fitness teachers, and nutritionists, in addition classes featuring budgeting and cooking skills (tentative). At this fair there will be a bike rodeo to teach bicycle safety and riding skills. We need help with a variety of safety items for the bikes and other items such as reflective accessories, bike helmets, and bicycles (new and gently used). We have a local bicycle group volunteering to support the bike rodeo but will need additional items.

The second event, the Dodge Ball Tournament will be held in May at Sidney Glen Elementary School, where our second site is located. Dodge ball is the pre-eminent Friday activity for our Club kids. It trumps almost any other activity offered by our Club! This tournament will be a fun activity with local police agencies squaring off with the local fire department on the court to create an exciting game and entertainment for everyone. Before the tournament there will be an opportunity for the boys and girls to share their Club experiences at booths and tables.

We hope that you will support our efforts by participation or donations. We also have a wish list that we are developing to provide additional experiences, sponsor additional children to attend our Club, and provide new equipment and miscellaneous items. Please check out our wish list at www.bgcsps.org/SKwishlist.
