#KuntalClimbs for the Kids of Sunsar Maya

8516 meters to the top

Kuntal Joisher–world renowned mountaineer, first vegan to summit Mt. Everest, and Sunsar Maya board member–is climbing the Himalayan mountain, Lhotse. Kuntal has two goals:

1. Summit Lhotse, at 27,940 feet, the world's fourth highest mountain
2. Shine a light on the students of Sunsar Maya, who are making their own climb out of poverty

In Kuntal's own words:

"This time around I'm climbing Lhotse to support a cause very close to my heart–education for the most underprivileged in Nepal! Our after-school program at Sunsar Maya is the first of its kind in Nepal. We provide the children with the things they need for healthy development and long-term success. Each day our kids arrive to a warm greeting by our teachers; they join circle time where they can talk about what's going on in their lives, their ups and downs, and work through their emotions; they share a healthy meal together (often the most nutritious of their day); they join their classes for hands-on learning activities that go far beyond a book ever could; they dance, sing, and meditate. They also receive regular medical checkups and starting this month, a counselor is joining the team to provide both mental health and sensory issue therapies. For many reasons, our kids' homes might not be able to provide some of the fundamental tools for development. We're working to provide them with all they need to grow and thrive."
