Thank you for your continued support and your interest in our exciting new project! If you’ve been to the Waikoloa Dry Forest Preserve, you know that we are working hard to reforest areas between the ancient wiliwili trees with native trees, shrubs, and vines to recover the native community of plants that make up the lowland dry forest. You also know that there is very little shade in the preserve during the hottest parts of the day! While we’re confident that one day, the preserve will be full of native trees that cool the air and provide shade for us, we’re excited to be building a pavilion for all of our volunteers, students, staff and visitors to enjoy. This project will make teaching in the forest more effective, volunteering more comfortable and will also open up new opportunities for educational workshops, events, and field trips.
If you would like to contribute to our hale, or any of our programs, we would love your help! We are still in need of funding to cover additional construction costs, storage cabinets and a countertop, a handwashing sink, teaching resources such as interpretive signs, field guides and dissecting microscopes for students. This project is going to change the way we are able to educate our community and make visiting the preserve an even better experience. We look forward to sharing its completion with you and thank you for your continued support! Every donation makes a difference and we hope you’ll take this opportunity to help us build something that will transform our programs and visitor experiences for many years!
