The Driving Force: Our Poopmobiles!

Every sanitation social business needs a Poopmobile!

Over the next twelve months SOIL plans to build and install over 750 additional household SOIL EkoLakay toilets serving an estimated 5,625 people.

We believe this project is making a critical contribution to solving the global sanitation crisis.

2.5 billion people (36% of the global population) still lack access to a toilet. And sadly this crisis is particularly evident in Haiti, where diarrhea accounts for 16% of deaths in children under five. In fact Haiti has the highest childhood diarrheal incidence rate in the world and is currently battling the largest and most virulent cholera epidemic in recent global history, which has killed over 9,300 people and sickened more than 7% of the country’s population.

SOIL is working to solve this crisis by desinging and testing social business models for sustainably providing sanitation services in the world's most impoverished communities. By converting human wastes into rich compost, SOIL’s work aims to create meaningful livelihood opportunities throughout the ecological sanitation cycle, empowering people and restoring ecosystems.

How You Can Help

Throughout the year SOIL will be refining the EkoLakay service delivery model in order to reduce costs and begin planning how to spin off social enterprises that can bring EkoLakay to scale across Haiti. In order to achieve this goal, we need to test all our options for affordable waste transportation. And this means we need a new Poopmobile option!

Will a three-wheeled Poomobile moto with great gas mileage be better than our current Poopmobile truck? Help us test the best option for making our social business even better!
