Spy Hop: On The Move

Help Spy Hop Relocate to a New Facility

SPY HOP IS MOVING TO A NEW FACILITY — AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

For the past eight years, Spy Hop has called Salt Lake’s Rio Grande neighborhood home. The location and our facility have served us well through much of that time. However, over the past few years the neighborhood has become increasingly dangerous and has challenged our ability to provide safe, high quality programming that connects our students with their community.

Spy Hop’s number one goal is to provide safe media arts programming for young people in our community. Unfortunately, the growth in illegal activity, substance abuse and mental health challenges facing the Rio Grande neighborhood has compromised the safety of our students and staff, and Spy Hop parents have expressed concern for the safety of their children — as such, we must move.

In July, Spy Hop will be moving to the School Improvement Network building at 669 South West Temple. The move will cost roughly $25,000, and we are asking our friends and supporters in the community to help offset this unexpected expense by contributing to the relocation effort.

Our students are excited to move into the new location and start collaborating on some fantastic media arts projects. Your help ensures that Spy Hop can continue providing the high quality service that our students and the community expect, in a safe and stable environment.

Thank you for your time and for your support!

All relocation donations are 100% tax deductible. Spy Hop is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, Federal Tax ID# 87-0642304

About Spy Hop

Spy Hop is a media arts and education organization whose mission is to mentor young people in the digital media arts to help them find their voice, tell their stories, and be empowered to affect positive change in their lives, their communities, and the world. Hands-on, project-based programs in radio, film, music, audio and design provide students a foundation in digital media technologies, as well as the opportunity to explore their creativity, identity and interests. Along with high quality media arts education, Spy Hop’s programs decrease risk factors, such as substance abuse and violence, by providing a safe space and positive role models for underserved youth. Spy Hop programs also address the digital divide by promoting digital inclusion through access and education in communication technologies.

In 2015 Spy Hop won the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award, the nation’s highest honor for after-school arts and humanities programs. The award recognizes and supports outstanding programs that lay new pathways to creativity, expression and achievement outside of the regular school day.
