Cafe Nordo:Day of Giving

A Day of Giving with Cafe Nordo

For 364 days a year Seattle is an epicenter of commerce, technical innovation, and progressive ideals, growing faster than anyone can possibly keep up with.

But once a year, this year on May 10th, 2017, as a city we come together, open our wallets, and say “these non-profits create the landscape we want our city to grow into”.

Since moving in to Nordo’s Culinarium in Pioneer Square two years ago, Nordo has burrowed into that landscape. We have built a home for artists who are being priced out of Seattle in droves and we have offered them a living wage to stay and perform, compose, design, and create.

Our average ticket price is lower than when we began seven and a half years ago, and we are employing more artists and support staff than ever, as well as paying rent year-round on an exquisite venue in Pioneer Square.

We’re taking bigger risks with our work. Our fall 2016 mainstage "Hotel Nordo" was the first serious dramatic original piece Nordo has ever conceived and was the most critically acclaimed and well attended.

We are collaborating with artists we see as once in a generation talents, Sarah Porkalob’s "Madame Dragon’s 60th Birthday Bash" took our breath away.

We are forging partnerships with artists and organizations we’ve long admired such as Book-It Repertory Theater and Sgt. Risgby and his Amazing Sillouettes.

5 years ago, Ronald Holden dubbed Cafe Nordo “Les Enfantes Terrible of Dinner Theater”. In 2017 we are all grown up and shepherding the next generation of trailblazing artists.

Ticket sales alone do not make this work possible. This is possible because of friends who can afford a $5,000 contribution a year, a $5 contribution a month, or somewhere between the two.
